STUDENT of the MONTH
Student of the Month Logo How To Participate | Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office Education Fund

Sheriff Stan Burchardt is pleased to announce the ongoing success of the Student of the Month program, aimed at recognizing outstanding students in Hillsdale County. The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office wants to express the importance of encouraging young people to study hard and explore their potential in the classroom. High school graduates earn $7,000 to $12,000 more per year than those who drop out of school. With that in mind, this program has been initiated to provide students with one more incentive to excel in their studies. Sheriff Burchardt knows the importance of students attending school as a way to increase their influence within society and to promote their own future. Equally, if a student remains in school, the likelihood of them taking part in or becoming a victim of criminal activity significantly decreases.

For more information about the Student of the Month program, Undersheriff William K. Whorley or call him at (800) 437-7317 Ext. 226.

TEACHERS: Student of the Month Nomination Form (PDF file, 20 KB)
STUDENTS: Application for Law Enforcement Scholarship (PDF file, 295 KB)

Participating schools decide who to recognize and why. Selected students will receive a certificate signed by the sheriff and will become role models to others in their class. Students will also receive a bumper sticker identifying them as a Star Student. The selected student will have the opportunity to compete with other Students of the Month for a $250 scholarship to be applied to any college or university. The goal of this program is to encourage school-age children to stay in school and excel in their respective studies. A teacher can nominate a student for any significant achievement within the classroom. Student nomination forms will be reviewed by an already-appointed Student of the Month Committee.
